Frequently Asked Questions & Answers – First Class Detailing
General / Detailing
What services does First Class Auto Detailing offer?
We provide a full range of professional detailing services in the Tampa Bay area, including hand washing, waxing, interior deep cleaning, paint correction, ceramic coating, paint protection film (PPF), window tinting, and vinyl wraps.
How often should I have my car detailed?
It depends on how you use your car. For daily drivers, a professional wash and maintenance detail every 4–6 weeks helps protect the finish. If your vehicle is exposed to heavy contaminants or has high-performance or luxury paint, you may want more frequent correction or protection treatment.
Do I need to schedule an appointment?
Yes. We recommend booking ahead for our more specialized services (like paint correction, PPF, or coatings) since they require prep time. For standard washes, we may accommodate walk-ins depending on availability.
Paint Correction & Coating
What is “paint correction”?
Paint correction is a process where our detailers use machine polishers and specialized compounds to remove or significantly reduce surface imperfections — such as swirl marks, light scratches, and oxidation — restoring clarity and gloss to your vehicle’s paint.
Why should I do paint correction before applying a ceramic coating?
Because ceramic coatings bond to the surface you apply them on. If the paint has defects, the coating will seal those in. Correcting the paint first ensures a smooth, clean base so the coating can adhere properly and look its best.
Also, once the coating cures, it’s much harder (or not possible) to polish out defects later without damaging the coating.
How long does paint correction take?
That depends on the condition of the paint and how aggressive the correction needs to be. For moderate swirl removal, a single-stage polish might take several hours; more intensive multi-stage correction can take most of a day.
What is ceramic coating, and why is it useful?
A ceramic coating is a liquid polymer that chemically bonds with your car’s clear coat, forming a durable, hydrophobic barrier. This layer makes your vehicle easier to clean, protects against UV damage, and helps resist chemicals and environmental contaminants.
How long does a ceramic coating last?
It depends on the coating quality and maintenance. Professional-grade coatings generally last 2–5 years, while premium multi-layer coatings can last even longer. Regular washing with pH-neutral soap and using booster sprays helps maximize longevity.
Paint Protection Film (PPF / Clear Bra)
What is Paint Protection Film (PPF)?
PPF (also called “clear bra”) is a transparent, durable urethane film applied to painted surfaces of your vehicle. It’s designed to absorb impacts from road debris, rock chips, and small abrasions.
How does PPF compare to ceramic coating?
They serve different protective roles:
- PPF: Physical protection against rock chips, scratches, and minor impacts.
- Ceramic coating: A chemical barrier that protects against UV rays and contaminants.
Many customers choose to combine both: PPF on high-impact areas and ceramic coating over the full car.
Does PPF heal itself when scratched?
Yes — many high-quality PPF films have “self-healing” topcoats, which can repair minor swirl marks or very light scratches when exposed to heat such as sunlight or warm water.
How long does PPF last?
With proper maintenance, PPF can last 5–10 years depending on film quality, installation, and care.
How do I maintain PPF?
Use pH-neutral soap when washing, avoid automatic brushes, and don’t wax or polish directly on PPF unless recommended. Inspect edges and maintain the film periodically to extend its life.
Window Tinting
Is window tint legal in Florida / Tampa Bay?
Yes — but Florida has strict regulations on tint darkness and reflectiveness. Front side windows typically must allow around 28% of light through. We ensure our tint installations comply with Florida law.
What are the benefits of window tint?
- Reduces glare and heat inside the car
- Protects the interior from UV damage
- Adds privacy
- Enhances appearance
What types of tint do you use?
We offer a variety of ceramic and nano-ceramic window films that combine UV protection, heat reduction, and superior durability without requiring excessive darkness.
Vinyl Wraps
What is a vinyl wrap?
A vinyl wrap is a large adhesive-backed film applied to the surface of a vehicle. It comes in many colors, finishes (matte, gloss, satin), and textures such as carbon fiber or brushed metal.
How does vinyl wrap compare to paint protection film?
Vinyl wrap is primarily cosmetic — used to change color or style. PPF is protective — designed to guard against chips and scratches. Some customers combine both for style and protection.
How long does a vinyl wrap last?
High-quality wraps typically last 5–7 years or longer with proper care. Longevity depends on maintenance habits and sun exposure.
Can you wrap part of a car, or does the entire car need to be wrapped?
Yes — we can wrap partial areas such as the hood, roof, mirrors, or accents if you don’t want a full wrap. Partial wraps can achieve a custom look at a lower cost.
Miscellaneous
How much does detailing cost in the Tampa Bay area?
Pricing varies based on vehicle size, condition, and the services needed. A basic detail costs much less than a multi-stage paint correction + PPF + coating package. Contact us for an accurate quote.
How long do specialty services (PPF, coating, correction) take?
These services are more time-intensive than a standard wash.
- Paint Correction: Several hours to a full day.
- PPF Installation: 1–3+ days depending on coverage and curves.
- Ceramic Coating: Prep + 12–24 hours to cure; full cure may take several days.
We will provide a realistic timeline during booking.
Do I need to do anything after I get a coating or wrap?
Yes – maintenance is very important:
- Use pH-neutral car soap
- Avoid abrasive brushes or harsh chemicals
- Dry with microfiber towels
- Use coating boosters regularly
- For wraps: avoid high-pressure washing on edges and check for lifting
